Under 16 Team vs Somerset

Max Holford (Cotswold Hills)

The County Under 16s started their Channel League campaign with an away game against Somerset at Stockwood Vale, and what an exciting day it turned out to be.

Somerset have been enjoying a tremendous season at every level, and it was therefore important for us to get off to the best possible start; our boys didn't disappoint, taking the morning foursomes by four games to one.

Captain Max Holford (Cotswold Hills) and Seb Pender (Minchinhampton) set the best possible example in taking the top game by a 4&3 margin, whilst Harry Brookes (Cotswold Hills) and Harry Cowley (Minchinhampton) recorded a 7&6 win in game five.

Sandwiched between these two bigs wins were three nip and tuck games that went to the final hole, Gloucestershire winning two of them.

Our boys maintained their form in the afternoon singles, winning five matches and halving two of the ten games played, resulting in an overall match win by 10 games to 5. Well done to all; a real team effort.

As always, our thanks go to our opponents and the host club for stagng the match, and in so doing providing our Juniors with fantastic opportunities to enjoy their golf in a competitive environment, and to help develop their games.

Special thanks also to Peter and Olive French who looked after the team brilliantly, stepping in for Under 16 Team Manager Leek Knapper who was sunning himself on the English Riviera.

The team now look forward to their next match on the 14th August against Wilthsire at Circencester.
