On a bright, beautiful and sunny spring day, the U14 squad gathered at Cirencester GC for the annual fixture against the U14 County Academy squad. There was a very good turnout with 12 of the squad able to play with only 4 missing due to holidays
The format for the day was 4 ball better-ball matchplay with shots being given by the County boys based on the new 90% rule, but we did try and match up the pairings as best we could so that not too many shots were being given!
It was great to see such good golf played on the day and all the boys playing the game in the right spirit.
There were some very keenly fought contests on the day but in the end the U14 County boys eventually ran out winners by four games to two.
All the boys and squad manager Ian James would like to thank Tom Gillespie for organising the day and ensuring that everything ran like clockwork. All his hard work made sure the day was a great success and thanks also go to the parents for making sure all the boys arrived in good time and for those that stayed and supported on the day.
Finally, a special thank you from the GGU U14 squad to everyone at Cirencester Golf Club for everything they did on the day. The course was in good condition for the time of year and all the boys found it a great test, so credit goes to the green staff for presenting the course in such fine condition.
The catering staff served up Sausage, Beans and chips after the match which was just what the boys needed so thanks to them and also to Alistair Curnock who captained the GGU U14 side on the day.
