U16 Team vs Wiltshire

The Under 16 team arrived at Cirencester GC looking to keep their good league start going in their 2nd match of the Channel League campaign against Wiltshire u16’s.

Due to Manger Lee Knapper not being able to make the match until the afternoon singles, the team was superbly managed and sent out by Peter French – Thanks Peter again for your great support and help.

The morning foursomes looked to be going Wiltshire’s way with Max Holford and Seb Pender losing the first match 1up and Kobe Wesson and Oli Jenkins losing the 2nd match 4&3.

Back then came the GGU boys with them winning the remaining 3 foursomes matches. Harry Griffiths and Alex Cruickshank won their match 3&2 and Jake Harris and Zac Castledine winning by the same margin. The duo of Harry Brookes and Harry Cowley produced another great foursomes win by winning their match 5 & 4.

The boys then enjoyed lunch and prepared themselves for the afternoon singles. The GGU boys got off to a great start with Captain, Max Holford winning the 1st match 4&3 and we also won the 3rd match with Harry Griffiths winning 2&1.

Sadly in the other matches saw Wiltshire take control, winning the next 7 matches. The only positive match saw Harry Brookes, playing in the final match, fight back from 3 down at one point, to win his match 2up.

This saw the final score GGU 9 – Wiltshire 6.

Credit must go to all the boys for the way they handled themselves throughout the day with horrendous rain to start with and also for their behaviour on and off the course.

Our thanks go to everyone at Cirencester GC for their hospitality both on and off the course and for preparing the course in such fantastic condition.

The boys and team manager, Lee Knapper, would like to thank Peter French for his great help and support throughout the day, and also to all the parents for getting them to and from the course.

Our next match is on Wednesday 30th August against Glamorgan at Maesteg GC.
