Gloucestershire made a winning start to their 2018 Channel League campaign with a win against Cornwall at Cotswold Edge.
In the first match under the captaincy of Vernon Chappell (Cotswold Edge). Gloucestershire ran out 9.5 – 5.5 winners, despite falling behind after the morning foursomes.
Steve Yorke (Shirehampton Park) and Dave Williams (Cotswold Hills) got the team off to a winning start with a 3+2 victory and both Carl Gyde (Painswick) and John Keenaghan (Chipping Sodbury) and Phil Graham (Minchinhampton) and Nick Morris (Lilleybrook) earned hard fought halves to leave the lunchtime score at 3-2 to the visitors.
In the afternoon singles Gloucestershire stepped up their game and wins for Vern Chappell, Dave Williams, Bob Broad (Minchinhampton), Rob Stephens (Minchinhampton), Carl Gyde, John Keenaghan and Nick Morris and a half for Phil Graham brought the team home.
Captain Vern was pleased to have a winning start and to welcome some new members to the team. He also gave special thanks to Dave Clutterbuck (Cotswold Edge) who stepped in at the 11th hour after a late withdrawal.
The next Channel League match is on 5th July when we will host Somerset at Stinchcombe Hill.
